it's 5th May....
Every 5th May i got excited. It's 2 days after favourite uncle's birthday.... its my Daddy's birthday!!!!
Typically, the celebration will be something like immediate family will gather for some "doa selamat" then gobble down the best dish mom whipped for the occasion.
This year, its rather different. I have no presents for dad. I'm fucking broke. But i know, dad had never expect anything from his sons. Our presence matters most to him. So this time, we head back "home". Yeah, our old neighbourhood. Our old home town. The area where we lived 21 years together with. It was the best feeling....
When i arrived, they were almost done with their meal. Pardon me, i have to make the trip from Kallang, then Toa Payoh, then Jurong East, then Clementi. And i have to use the legendary "stairs of death". The tiredness thru this all poofs the moment i saw dad's face. It was a happy moment.
Dad, i knew i have never been a good son. The picture of us back in the 80's, u kept in your wardrobe. I had written on its back something like ,"picture taken with beloved dad. one day, i want to return his kindness for bringing me up" was the most touching and sentimental thing you ever did. i have never, and can never repay back your kindness, your sacrifise... your everything. You'd give your last dollar to me so that i can have my nonsensical toy. You gave me and adik everything.
There can never be anyone replacing you as a great leader of the family. Even though there were times where the chips are down, i knew you'd bounce and return everything back in shape.
I knew you love me. I knew you love me very much. I love you too....
Happy 55th birthday to my one and only ....
