Tiger stands tall with only a slight amount of flex in his legs and his chin held away from his chest. The shaft aims at his belly button with his arms hanging comfortably straight. From this position Tiger can make a wide, powerful, athletic swing.
Great width and freedom
Half-way up on the backswing we can see that the right arm
has folded and the wrists have cocked with the club shaft pointing at the target line. The left arm is maintained comfortably straight while the left shoulder has turned nearly under the chin.
The magic move
Tiger starts the downswing by turning the body back to the ball with the right elbow moving into the right side as the arms follow the pulling force of the body. I call this the magic move and it is used by all top professionals. Half-way down we can yet again see the shaft pointing at the target line with the body weight moving into the left side.
Extension and speed
At impact the arms extend with the clubhead catching up to the hands with unbelievable speed and power. Notice too how Tiger's head is still up as the body continues turning to the target with the right knee moving down the target line.
No holding back
Tiger's shoulders have fully unwound with the right shoulder forward of the left and yet the upper body is still at right angles to the spine. The weight is fully on the left side and after extending, the arms have folded, bringing the club back behind the head. Just perfect!
